Women's Track Begins Quest For NCAA Title

Sacramento, Calif. (hurricanesports.com) – The third-ranked University of Miami women’s track and field team began its quest for its first NCAA title on Wednesday in cold and rainy conditions in Sacramento, Calif.

Miami opened the day with the 4×100-meter relay preliminaries. The All-American relay of junior Dominique Darden (Harrisburg, Pa.), senior Wiande Moore (Spring, Texas), junior India Ransom (Largo, Md.) and junior Charlette Greggs (Miami Northwestern) finished second in its heat with a time of 44.12 seconds to advance to Friday evening’s final.

Later that night, sophomore All-American Ginou Etienne (Miami Central) advanced to Friday’s semifinals of the 400-meters finishing third in her opening round heat in a time of 53.01 seconds.

In the 100-meters, Ransom advanced to the semifinals finishing third in her preliminary heat with a time of 11.71 seconds. Ransom however did not reach the 100-meter final placing ninth in her semifinal heat, her third race of the day, in a time of 11.75 seconds.

Miami returns to action on Thursday with the qualifying round of the shot put featuring NCAA Indoor Champion Kim Barrett (Miami Gulliver Prep), the preliminaries of the 200-meters featuring NCAA East Regional Champion Charlette Greggs, the opening round of the 400-meter hurdles featuring NCAA East Regional Champion Dominique Darden, and the first round of the 4×400-meter relay.
