Deem Named Mondo USTCA District Coach of the Year

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami head women’s track and field coach Amy Deem has been named the 2005 Mondo United States Track Coaches Association South District Coach of the Year.
Deem, who has won the award in four of the last five seasons, also brought home the honor in 2001, 2002 and 2004.
This season Deem guided the Hurricanes to a sweep of the ACC Indoor and Outdoor Championships in the schools first season in the league. Deem was named the ACC Indoor and Outdoor Coach of the Year joining North Carolina’s Dennis Craddock as the only coaches in ACC history to earn both honors in the same season.
Miami recorded a third-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships marking the highest finish in school-history, and placed second at last weekend’s NCAA East Regional Track and Field Championships.
Miami has ranked among the top-10 teams in the nation by Trackwire this entire outdoor season and reaching an outdoor season high of No. 4 on May 18. The Hurricanes reached a season-high ranking of No. 2 during the indoor season.
Now in her 15th season at Miami, Deem has guided 32 student-athletes to a combined 92 All-America honors and eight individual National Championships, including 2005 NCAA Indoor shot put champion Kim Barrett and 2004 NCAA 100-meter Champion Lauryn Williams.
The Hurricanes have boasted at least one All-American in each of the last 13 seasons.
The UM women’s track and field team will be competing at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, June 8-11, in Sacramento, Calif.
