Schultz Sets School-Record In 1500-Meters
May 13, 2005
Atlanta, Ga. (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami junior Melanie Schultz (Davison, Mich.) finished seventh in the 1500-meters with a school-record time of 4:24.26 to highlight the first day of competition at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Ga.
This marks the third time this season that Schultz has bettered the school-record in the 1500-meters. This season Schultz has lowered the school-record in the event by over five seconds. Prior to this season the old mark of 4:29.62 by Natalie Watson had held since the 2000 season.
This season Schultz has established herself as arguably the best distance runner in Miami history. During the indoor season she broke the school-record in the mile run (4:46.81) becoming the first Hurricane to post a time under five minutes. And at last month’s ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships she became the first runner in UM history to post an NCAA regional qualifying mark in a distance event qualifying in both the 1500-meters and 5000-meters.
