April 28, 2005
Philadelphia, Pa. (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami senior Kim Barrett (Miami Gulliver Prep) continued her dominance in the shot put winning the Penn Relays title Thursday afternoon at Franklin Field.
Barrett recorded a winning toss of 17.85 meters (58-06.75) marking her eighth consecutive win, and her 10th win in 11 competitions this season. The 2004 Olympian has not lost a competition since February 12th. During her current winning streak Barrett has won the 2005 NCAA Indoor National Championship as well as the ACC Indoor and Outdoor titles.
“I didn’t feel an ounce of pressure,” said Barrett after the victory. “Coming off last week was huge. We won our conference championship (ACC) as a team, and I won individually, but it was definitely a team victory. I’m really proud of that. But this is Penn, and you have to take your championships when you can. They don’t come around that often.”
Miami’s third ranked 4×100-meter relay advanced to Friday’s final finishing second in its heat with a time of 45.46 seconds. Also advancing was UM’s fourth-ranked 4×400-meter relay which finished second in its heat with a time 3:37.62, the third fastest of the preliminaries. The 4×400-meter relay final is scheduled for Saturday.
