Bradley Sets Single Season Record in UM's 4-3 Win over No. 13 Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – No. 1 ranked senior Megan Bradley broke her own single season school record when she downed No. 2 Julie Coin in the ninth ranked University of Miami women’s tennis team’s 4-3 victory over No. 13 Clemson in ACC action Saturday afternoon.

Bradley downed Coin 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 1 position in a battle of the country’s top two players, to improve her overall record to 38-1 and break the single season win record of 37-6 that she set last season. The Columbia, Mo. native remained unbeaten in 19 matches this spring.

The Hurricanes, who have won an ACC-best 16-straight matches, improved to 18-2 overall and remained unbeaten in ACC action with a 9-0 mark. The Tigers fell to 17-7 overall and 5-2 in the ACC.

Clemson claimed the coveted doubles point after coming back from a 6-2 deficit at the No. 3 slot to take a 9-7 victory and clinch the doubles point. Miami’s fifth ranked tandem of Bradley and sophomore Audrey Banada gave Clemson’s 22nd ranked Julie Coin/Romy Farah pair its first loss in ACC play with a 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles. The win was Miami’s only doubles victory in the match.

In singles action, sophomore Emily Mowery, ranked 84th, downed Maria Brito 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 5 position to tie the match at one-all.

Senior Staci Stevens fell to No. 80 Farah at the No. 2 slot before Bradley downed Coin to once again tie the match 2-2.

The Hurricanes won a point at the No. 6 position to take a 3-2 match lead. Banada won the first set, 6-3, and was up 5-2 in the second set before the match was called after Clemson’s Carol Salge was forced to retire.

Freshman Patricia Starzyk, ranked 107th, clinched the match for the Hurricanes with a 6-0, 3-6, 6-4 three set victory over Daniella Alvarez at the No. 4 position.

Clemson notched their final point of the match to bring the score to 4-3 with a win at the No. 3 singles slot. The Tiger’s Alix Lacelarie battled No. 124 junior Melissa Applebaum to claimed a grueling 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 three-set win.

The Hurricanes return to action on Sunday, Apr. 10 when they travel to Atlanta, Ga. to take on No. 8 Georgia Tech at noon.
