Williams Wins Pentathlon At ACC Championships

Chapel Hill, N.C. (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami senior Amber Williams (Succasunna, N.J.) won two events and finished in the top three of three others to win the pentathlon title at the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Williams, who ranks second in the nation in the pentathlon, dominated the ACC field finishing with a meet record 4,028 points, 277 points ahead of second-place finisher Deanna Lane (Florida State).
Miami sophomore Amy Seward (Virginia Beach, Va.) placed third in the pentathlon. Seward set personal-bests in the 60-meter hurdles, shot put, long jump and 800-meters en route to a career-high 3,697 points. Seward’s mark of 6.28 meters (20-07.25) provisionally qualifies her for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
In the weight throw, senior Kimberli Barrett (Miami Gulliver Prep) finished second with a toss of 20.64 meters (67-08.75). Freshman Khadija Talley (Benning, Ga.) also scored finishing seventh with a career-best throw of 18.03 meters (59-02.00).
The third ranked University of Miami women’s track and field team, competing in its inaugural ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships, is in first-place after the first day of competition with 26 points. Virginia Tech is currently second with 16 points.
Competition will continue Friday with the final day of competition taking place on Saturday.
