Diaz Named ACC Player of the Week

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami sophomore guard Guillermo Diaz (San Juan, Puerto Rico) has been named ACC Player of the Week after averaging 26.5 points, 6.0 rebounds 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals in two conference games last week. He connected on 18-of-35 (.514) from the floor, including 8-of-18 (.444) from three-point range as the Hurricanes opened league play with a 1-1 record.
Diaz is the second Hurricane to earn ACC Player of the Week honors this season joining Robert Hite who earned the honor on December 13.
Diaz led the Hurricanes to their first ACC win a 67-66 victory over 24th-ranked NC State Sunday, totaling a game-high 26 points, six rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal. Earlier in the week he had a game-high 27 points to go with six rebounds and three steals in an 80-69 loss at ninth-ranked Georgia Tech.
Diaz has scored in double-figures in 11 consecutive games and his 16.8 points per game average ranks sixth in the ACC in scoring.
The Hurricanes (10-3, 1-1 ACC) travel to Virginia to take on the Cavaliers this Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. before returning home to face intrastate rival Florida State Saturday at noon at the Convocation Center.
