Hurricanes Add Cason to 2026-27 Roster

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami men’s basketball head coach Jai Lucas announced Monday the addition of Florida native L.J. Cason to the 2026-27 roster.

“L.J. is a talented and versatile guard who understands what it takes to win at the highest level,” Lucas said. “He can create for himself and others, shoots the ball at a high percentage and plays with a toughness that fits our identity. We are excited to bring him back home to Florida and welcome him to the Miami basketball family.”

Cason joins the Hurricanes after spending the past two seasons at Michigan, where he helped the Wolverines capture the 2026 national championship. He appeared in 28 games during his sophomore season before suffering a torn ACL in February, averaging 8.4 points, 2.4 assists and 1.9 rebounds per game.

The Lakeland native scored in double figures 11 times, including a career-high 18 points at Northwestern. For the season, he shot 50.3 percent from the field and 40.2 percent from beyond the arc.

As a freshman, Cason appeared in 30 games off the bench and averaged 4.3 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 11.8 minutes per game. He recorded 14 points, three assists, two rebounds and two steals in his collegiate debut against Cleveland State.

Prior to his time in Ann Arbor, Cason played three seasons at Victory Christian Academy under head coach Steve Fitzgerald. He helped the program compile a 67-21 record and win consecutive District 8 and Class 2A Region 2 championships.
