May 13, 2004
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Head men’s basketball coach Frank Haith announced today that forward Raymond Hicks (Longview, Texas) has signed a national letter of intent to attend the University of Miami this fall.
Hicks, who is the second recruit to sign with the Hurricanes this spring, selected Miami over a number of schools including Indiana, Texas A&M, Baylor and Tulsa.
“We are very excited that Raymond has chosen the University of Miami,” Haith said. “He will give us size at the perimeter and also has the ability to go inside offensively. Raymond is a quality young man from a quality family.”
Hicks (6-7, 228) averaged 21.2 points and 10.1 rebounds per game last season in leading Longview to a 29-4 record and its first district title in seven seasons. Hicks earned District 11-5A Co-MVP honors as a senior and holds Longview school records for points in a game (42), season (698) and career (1,487). In addition, Hicks was selected as a Texas High School Coaches Association Basketball All-Star.
Hicks joins 6-2 guard Antoine Mayhand (Washington, D.C.) as UM signees for next season.
