Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – Overcast and breezy conditions greeted the Miami Hurricanes football team as the team began its second week of spring practice with a two-hour workout at Greentree Practice Field on the University of Miami campus. The Hurricanes will continue spring practice Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at Greentree.

The Hurricanes practiced in full pads on Monday and spent the final 45 minutes of practice in some full-squad play with some seven-on-seven drills at the final part of the workout. On the injury front, tight end Brandon Sebald and defensive end Bryan Pata sat out drills with injuries. Sebald suffered a separated shoulder in Saturday’s practice that will cause him to miss the rest of the spring while Pata suffered a sprained left ankle. Pata’s status for the rest of spring practice is undetermined, but he did suit up for the practice while wearing a protective boot on the injured ankle.

Head Coach Larry Coker summarized the team’s progress this spring after practice by providing a summation of his analysis from the scrimmaging portion of Saturday’s practice.

“Defensively, (DT) Orien Harris and (DT) Teraz McCray did an unbelievable job,” Coker said. “And (CB) Antrel Rolle in the secondary did a great job. (Safety) Greg Threat has been outstanding. Those guys have done great jobs. Offensively, I think (QB) Brock (Berlin) played awfully well. Also, I thought (QB) Derrick Crudup did a nice job. (Tailback Tyrone) Moss ran the ball well at times. On the offensive line, if you look for standouts there, they played pretty well together but a guy I think has really done a great job.”

Monday’s practice was the fifth of 15 sessions that will conclude on Saturday, April 17.

All spring practices are closed to the public with the exception of the Friday, April 2, 7 pm workout at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale and the Spring Game slated for Saturday, April 17, at the Orange Bowl.
