Hurricanes Fall To Syracuse, 91-74

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) – Hakim Warrick set a school record by making all 11of his shot attempts and finished with 27 points, leading Syracuse to an easy91-74 win over Miami on Saturday. The Hurricanes’ longest losing streak in adecade stretched to seven games.
Warrick’s perfect effort was part of a season-high 64.4 percent shootingeffort by Syracuse (16-5, 6-4 Big East). Gerry McNamara added 23 for theOrangemen, who made only seven turnovers in the game.
William Frisby had 16 points for Miami (13-12, 3-8), which fell one gamebehind idle Virginia Tech for 12th place in the Big East standings. Only thetop 12 league finishers qualify for the conference tournament.
Darius Rice had 14 for Miami, but left the game with 15:02 remaining afterinjuring his right foot.
Miami scored the game’s first six points, but the Orangemen quickly turnedthe final Big East meeting between the schools into a rout.
Syracuse used a 23-4 first-half run to open a 43-24 lead, and kept controlthe rest of the way. The Orangemen shot 86.7 percent from the floor in theopening 10 minutes, recorded field goals on 13 of 14 possessions in one stretchand held Miami without a field goal for nearly nine minutes at one point.
The Orangemen shot 71.9 percent in the opening half, aided by eight dunks -five by Warrick alone – and led 54-33 at the break. Miami got within 65-52 with13:02 left after a Guillermo Diaz basket, but McNamara hit three 3-pointers inthe next two minutes to fuel an 11-2 run and push the lead back to 76-54.
Josh Pace had 13 points and Jeremy McNeil added 10 for the Orangemen, whowere again without sophomore Billy Edelin, who is sidelined indefinitelybecause of personal problems unrelated to basketball or academics.
Diaz had 13 and Rodrigue Djahue scored 10 for Miami.
