Hurricanes Dominate Inter-American Puerto Rico in Final Exhibition Game

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Junior Eric Wilkins and sophomore Anthony Harris combined for a pair of double-doubles as the University of Miami men’s basketball team cruised past Inter-American Puerto Rico, 117-62 in the Hurricanes’ final exhibition game of the 2004-05 season.
Harris went 6-of-8 from the field with 15 points and dished out 10 assists while Wilkins scored 14 and pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds.
Harris and Wilkins were just two of six Hurricanes to score double figures on the night. Senior Rob Hite, who went 9-of-12 from the field, and finished with 19 points.
Freshman Antonie Mayhand also had an impressive outing, connecting on four threes to close out the night with a total of 20 points, while junior Gary Hamilton fell one rebound shy of being the third UM player with a double-double, grabbing nine rebounds and scoring 10 points.
The Hurricanes never trailed against Inter-American Puerto Rico, outscoring IAPR 58-16 in the first half with a defensive effort that limited IAPR to shoot just 20 percent from the field. Miami would maintain the lead throughout the remainder of the game to take the 117-62 victory.
First-year head coach Frank Haith and the Hurricanes will open the 2004-05 regular season on Saturday, Nov. 20, taking on Wofford at the Convocation Center.
