Former Hurricane Darius Rice Taken in the 2004 CBA Draft

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Former University of Miami standout Darius Rice was taken by the Gary Steelheads in the fifth round of the 2004 Continental Basketball Association’s 19th annual college draft held Wednesday evening in Boise, Idaho.
“We are extremely excited about drafting Darius Rice,” said Steelhead spokesman Dennis Traux. “Throughout his four years at Miami, Darius has shown the ability to play at the next level and we are more than happy to have him with the Steelhead organization.”
Rice averaged a team-high 16.9 points and 6.4 rebounds per game during his senior season in 2003-04, becoming just the second Hurricane in school-history to lead the team in scoring four consecutive seasons.
Rice, who earned All-BIG EAST honors all four seasons at Miami, was a BIG EAST All-Rookie selection in 2000-01, an All-BIG EAST second team selection in 2001-02, and an All-BIG EAST third-team selection last season.
He finished his UM career ranked No. 1 starts (113), fourth in scoring (1,865), sixth in field goals (631), tied for second in field goal attempts (1,564), second in three-point field goals (260), second in three-point field goal attempts (755), seventh in free throws (343), ninth in free throw attempts (443), 11th in steals (129), 10th in games played (116) and third in minutes played (3,727).
In addition, Rice scored 1,060 points in BIG EAST play which ranks 19th in the 25-year history of the conference.
