Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – Head men’s basketball coach Frank Haith announces that guard Antoine Mayhand (Washington, D.C.) has signed a national letter of intent to attend the University of Miami this fall. Mayhand chose Miami over a number of schools including Georgetown, Illinois and Arkansas.

“Antoine is a complete basketball player,” said Haith. “He is an exceptional athlete who has the ability to score, as well as create opportunities for teammates. We were obviously impressed with ability on the court, but we were even more impressed with him as a person. He is a quality individual who we think will fit nicely into our program.”

Mayhand (6-2, 200), who can play either guard position, played at Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, Va., last season where he averaged 23 points, seven rebounds and eight assists per game.

Prior to enrolling at Massanutten, Mayhand played at HD Woodson High School in Washington, D.C. In three seasons as a starter he led his team to an 88-7 record and two state championship appearances.

He averaged 27 points per game as a senior and 26 points per game as a junior earning All-DCIAA honors both seasons. As a senior he was nominated to play in the McDonald’s High School All-America game.
