Spring Football Begins
Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The 2004 Miami Hurricanes football team began spring practice began Tuesday afternoon at Greentree Practice Field on the University of Miami campus.
“We had a good start to practice today, but we have a lot of work to do,” said head coach Larry Coker, who began his fourth season as UM coach with Tuesday’s workout. “We have a lot of new faces in new places this spring and it was pretty evident that we have a long way to go, but I was impressed with the effort and the enthusiasm. You could tell that everyone was happy to get on the field and get back to work.”
The Hurricanes worked out in shorts and shells as 46 returning lettermen participated in the first of 15 practices that will conclude on Saturday, April 17, with the CanesFest Spring Game at the Orange Bowl.
Three position switches of note were apparent Tuesday: redshirt freshman safety/fullback Jon Beason has moved to middle linebacker; redshirt freshman Willie Cooper has moved from linebacker to safety; and junior fullback Quadtrine Hill is seeing plenty of time at tailback this spring.
The following players suited up but are being held out of contact this spring: junior cornerback Glenn Sharpe (knee), sophomore receiver Ryan Moore (shoulder), junior defensive end Thomas Carroll (shoulder) and junior tailback Frank Gore (knee).
The Hurricanes continue spring practice with another workout on Wednesday slated to begin at 3:30 p.m. at Greentree. All spring practices are closed to the public with the exception of the Friday, April 2, workout at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale and the Spring Game slated for Saturday, April 10, at the Orange Bowl.
