Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The 12th-ranked University of Miami women’s track and field team has qualified seven student-athletes in five individual events and one relay for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, March 12-13, in Fayetteville, Ark.
Miami has been led this season by junior All-American Lauryn Williams (Rochester, Pa.) and freshman phenom Tabia Charles (Pickering, Ontario).
Williams, who currently ranks fourth in the NCAA in the 60-meters and sixth in the NCAA in the 200-meters, will compete in both events at the NCAA Championships. At the BIG EAST Indoor Championships in February, Williams captured both the 60-meter and 200-meter titles.
Charles is undefeated this season (4-0) in the triple jump and currently has the third best mark in the country in the event. In her first collegiate meet she broke her own Canadian Junior Record with a leap of 13.53 meters (44-04.75). Charles, who was named the BIG EAST Most Outstanding Field Performer after winning BIG EAST titles in both the long jump and triple jump, will compete in both events at the NCAA Championships. She is the first Hurricane to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships in both the long jump and triple jump.
Also qualifying in the long jump is freshman Brenda Faluade (Katy, Texas). Faluade enters the NCAA Indoor Championships with the 17th best mark this season (6.25 meters).
Sophomore All-Americans Dominique Darden (Harrisburg, Pa.) and Charlette Greggs (Miami Northwestern) will also be competing in two events. Darden qualified in the 200-meters while Greggs will compete in the 400-meters. The duo will then join senior All-American Kitoya Carter (Miami Northwestern) and freshman Ginou Etienne (Miami Central) in the 4×400-meter relay.
