Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami women’s track and field team moved up one spot to No. 12 in the latest Trackwire 25 rankings release Tuesday.
The Hurricanes won their second consecutive BIG EAST Indoor Championship two weeks ago and are preparing for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, March 12-13, in Fayetteville, Ark.
Miami has been led this season by junior All-American Lauryn Williams (Rochester, Pa.) and freshman phenom Tabia Charles (Pickering, Ontario).
Williams currently ranks fourth in the NCAA in the 60-meters and sixth in the NCAA in the 200-meters. At the BIG EAST Indoor Championships in February, Williams captured both the 60-meter and 200-meter titles.
Charles is undefeated this season (4-0) in the triple jump and currently has the third best mark in the country in the event. In her first collegiate meet she broke her own Canadian Junior Record with a leap of 13.53 meters (44-04.75). Charles was named the BIG EAST Most Outstanding Field Performer after winning BIG EAST titles in both the long jump and triple jump.
