Hurricanes Look to Overtake No. 4 Florida

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The 33rd-ranked University of Miami men’s tennis team will attempt to remain undefeated in dual play in 2004 with an upset of in-state rival No. 4 Florida Wednesday at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
The Hurricanes moved up one spot to No. 33 in the latest Omni Hotel/ITA Collegiate rankings released Tuesday, standing at 5-0 on the year after downing in-state foe Jacksonville, 6-1 Sunday afternoon in Coral Gables.
Miami will look to the play of the sophomore tandem of Colin Purcell and Tim Krebs in doubles play against the Gators. The duo has posted an overall record of 13-4 in 2004 while going undefeated in dual play at 5-0 in the No. 1 position.
Freshman Josh Cohen and sophomore Eric Hechtman will pace UM in singles play. Cohen is undefeated this spring playing at the No. 1 position at 5-0 – 13-5 overall – while Hechtman has yet to lose at the No. 3 spot at 4-0 – 10-5 overall – this season.
UF is 6-2 in 2004 and climbed to No. 4 in the polls following a win over then No. 6 Duke, 4-3 over the weekend.
Miami leads the all-time series against the Gators with an overall record of 46-10-1 in dual play, while Florida defeated the Hurricanes, 6-1 in 2003 in Gainesville.
Wednesday’s match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Admission is free.
