Williams, 4x400-Meter Relay Qualify For NCAA Championships

Fayetteville, Ark. (hurricanesports.com) – Five-time All-American Lauryn Williams (Rochester, Pa.) finished fourth in the 60-meters with a time of 7.23 and the 4×400-meter relay took third with a time 3:34.45 at the Tyson Foods Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. to automatically qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.

The NCAA Championships will be held March 12-13 at the University of Arkansas.

Williams, who set a school-record and automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 200-meters on Friday night, was one one-hundredth of a second off of the UM record in the 60-meters on Saturday.

Olympians Gail Devers (7.10) and Debbie Ferguson (7.20) finished first and second while Arkansas’ Veronica Campbell (7.23) edged Williams for third.

The women’s 4×400-meter relay of freshman Ginou Etienne (Miami Central), sophomore All-American Charlette Greggs (Miami Northwestern), sophomore All-American Dominique Darden (Harrisburg, Pa.) and senior All-American Kitoya Carter (Miami Northwestern) posted their fastest time of the season in finishing third behind Texas (3:32.22) and Florida (3:33.90).Miami’s time is the third fastest in the nation and will make them the top seed heading into the BIG EAST Championships, February 21-22, in Syracuse, N.Y.
