Williams Wins 55-Meters At Gator Invitational

Gainesville, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – All-American Lauryn Williams (Rochester, Pa.) won the 55-meters and the 14th-ranked University of Miami women’s track and field team set three school-records at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
Williams, a five-time All-American and 2003 Pan American Gold Medalist, finished in a school-record time of 6.70 seconds. Williams’ winning time automatically qualifies her for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, March 12-13, in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
The Hurricanes also received school-record performances from senior Adrienne Moss (Miami Southridge) and sophomore Melanie Schultz (Davison, Mich.). Moss broke her own school-record in the weight throw finishing 12th with a toss of 17.13 meters (56-02.50) while Schultz finished sixth in the mile run in a school-record time of 5:01.87.
Miami also had three women provisionally qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships in their respective events. Four-time All-American Charlette Greggs (Miami Northwestern) finished second in the 400-meters with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 53.95 seconds while freshman Ginou Etienne (Miami Central) also provisionally qualified in the 400-meters with a time of 54.53 seconds.
The Hurricanes’ third provisional qualifier was freshman Brenda Faluade (Katy, Texas) who finished third in the long jump with a leap of 6.25 meters (20-06.25).
Miami returns to action at the Tyson Invitational, Feb. 13-14, in Fayetteville, Ark.
