CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) – Darius Rice overcame a rough first half to score23 points and lead Miami to a 73-63 win over Rutgers on Wednesday night.
Rice had just three points on 0-for-5 shooting as Miami entered halftimewith a 29-27 lead, but the senior forward scored 20 second half points to leadthe Hurricanes (13-5, 3-1 Big East) to their third consecutive win. GuillermoDiaz and Robert Hite added 14 points apiece for Miami.
Ricky Shields led Rutgers (9-6, 1-4) with 19 points, on six-of-10 3-pointshooting and a foul shot. Quincy Douby chipped in with 11 points.
Rice scored 12 of Miami’s first 17 points after the half as the Hurricanesbuilt a 46-36 lead. Rutgers used superb three-point shooting to close to within50-47 before Rice scored eight of Miami’s next 10 points to give the Hurricanesto a 60-52 lead with 6:54 remaining.
The Scarlet Knights never got closer than six points after that. Rice’s 20second-half points came in just 14 minutes of play.
