Hurricanes Take Three First Place Finishes at Florida Intercollegiate

CORAL GABLES. Fla. – Sophomore All-American Charlette Greggs (Miami Northwestern) took the top spot in the 200 meters and Tabia Charles (Pickering, Ontario) set a Canadian Junior Record in the triple jump to highlight competition at the Florida Intercollgiate in Gainesville, Fla.

Greggs, a four-time All-American, recorded a time of 24.32 in winning the first event of the season. Greggs recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 23.37 in the preliminaries.

Freshman Tabia Charles took the top spot in the triple jump, landing at the 13.53 meters mark, nearly out jumping her nearest competitor by one meter. Her mark broke her own Canadian Junior indoor record and automatically quailifies her for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Freshman Brenda Faluade (Katy, TX) finished first in the long jump in her first collegiate meet hitting a mark of 6.17 meters in the finals, leaping past teammate Amber Williams (Succasunna, N.J.) who recorded a jump of 5.97 meters.

Senior Adrienne Moss (Miami Southridge) finished fifth in the shot put with an NCAA provisional mark of 15.62 meters. Freshman Ginou Etienne (Miami Central) was also impressive finishing third in the 400-meters with an NCAA provisional time of 54.41 seconds.

The Hurricanes also had a strong showing the 4×400 meter relay with Etienne, senior Terria Madison (Columbus, Ga.), Raina McMillian, and Zully Marie Pascual-Carrion placing second with a time of 3:47.52.

The Hurricanes will return to action on Jan. 23 at the Leonard Hilton Memorial in Houston, Texas.
