Rice Leads Miami In Rout Of Savannah State

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP)Darius Rice scored 25 points and Miami cruisedpast Savannah State 105-65 on Saturday night, extending the Hurricanes’ winningstreak to a season-high five games.

Robert Hite had 19 points and a game-high five steals for the Hurricanes(10-3), who had their highest-scoring effort since beating Savannah State107-98 on March 2, 1989 – a span of 409 games.

Karron Clarke had 13 points and Gary Hamilton had 12, plus a game-high ninerebounds for Miami, which had all 12 of its players score and no player logmore than 22 minutes.

Ajmal Gordon scored a team-high 14 points for Savannah State (1-13), whichlost its eighth straight.

Savannah State led 8-7 early, but Rice and Hite each scored seven points ina 27-7 run that gave Miami control for good. The Hurricanes led 46-20 at thehalf, then scored the first eight points after halftime and never led by lessthan 30 the rest of the way.

Jamal Daniels had 12 points and Sherard Reddick added 10 for Savannah State.

Miami shot 55 percent from the floor, compared to 36 percent by SavannahState. The Hurricanes, who are 9-1 at home this season, also had a 49-36rebounding edge.
