Jones Impressive At Portsmouth Invitational

Portssmouth, VA (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami senior James Jones (Miami American) scored a team-high 16 points to lead Sales System Ltd. to a 91-83 win over Riddle Acura at the 51st Annual Portsmouth Invitational Tournament in Portsmouth, VA.
The Portsmouth Invitational Tournament is the nation’s oldest amateur basketball tournament and is recognized by the NBA and European scouts as the premier showcase for collegiate talent.
Jones, who averaged 16.9 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game this season for the Hurricanes, was very impressive in his tournament debut. Jones connected on 6-of-9 from the field, and was 4-of-5 from three-point range. He also added three rebounds and one block in 29 minutes of action.
Last season Miami guard John Salmons played in the Portsmouth Invitational and used the competition as a springboard to being selected in the first round of the 2002 NBA Draft.
Jones’ team will return to action on Friday, April 11.
