Football Practice Report - Monday, March 31

March 31, 2003

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com – The Miami Hurricanes football team started its third week of spring practice with a two-hour workout in cool, clear weather at Greentree Practice Field on the University of Miami campus.

The Hurricanes practiced in full pads on Monday and will take Tuesday off before continuing practices Wednesday afternoon. Monday’s workout focused on fundamentals and group play as both the offense and defense spent much of the session working amongst them. It was the first practice for the Hurricanes since their first full-scale scrimmage, a 58-play scrimmage that took place during last Friday night’s practice in Fort Lauderdale.

Monday’s practice was the ninth of 15 sessions that will conclude on Friday, April 11. All practices are closed to the public with the exception of Saturday’s 2003 CanesFest at the Orange Bowl. Gates to the Orange Bowl will open at 9 a.m. for the event, which is free to the public and will include a lengthy scrimmage.

On the injury front, receiver Akieem Jolla practiced for the first time this spring after missing the first two weeks because of a quadriceps injury. Also, defensive back Brandon Meriweather sat out the practice with a high ankle sprain he suffered during Friday’s practice. Coker said after practice that Meriweather might miss the remainder of spring practice due to the injury.
