Rhode Island Edges Miami In Heartbreaker 54-53

LAS VEGAS (AP) – Brian Woodward scored 13 points and Rhode Island withstoodtwo potentially game-winning shots in the final five seconds to defeat Miami,54-53, in a third-round game of the NCAA Las Vegas Tournament Tuesday.
Miami’s Armondo Surratt missed a 3-pointer with five seconds left andteammate Darius Rice made a 3-pointer just after the buzzer had sounded.
The Rams (2-1) went ahead, 50-48, when Woodward made two free throws at3:28.
Rhode Island increased its lead to 52-48 on Dustin Hellenga’s lay-up at3:01.
Robert Hite scored to narrow the lead to 52-50 for Miami (2-1), but a basketby Woodward gave the Rams a 54-50 advantage with 1:05 remaining.
A 3-pointer by Hite with 50 seconds left cut the Rams’ lead to 54-53.
Rhode Island led 30-19 going into the last minute of the first half butconsecutive 3-pointers by the Hurricanes’ Karron Clarke and Rice brought Miamiwithin five, 30-25.
Rice led the Hurricanes with 12 points.
