Miami Announces Halftime Entertainment For This Friday's Soccer Match
Sept. 24, 2003
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami has announced that members of the North American Flyball Association will participate in a halftime entertainment during the September 26th soccer match between the University of Miami and #7 ranked UConn. Game time is set for 7 pm. Tickets are just $5 for adults, $3 for youth & seniors.
Raiders of the Lost Bark, Too Hot To Handle and Storm Riders will each pair up dogs from the different clubs and expect to run fairly evenly matched teams.
Flyball is a race of two 4-dog teams side-by-side over a 51-foot racing lane. The lane consists of four hurdles spaced 10 feet apart and a spring loaded flyball box placed 15 feet beyond the farthest hurdle. The flyball box has an angled pedal that the dogs trigger with their feet. This causes the box to eject a tennis ball. One after the other, each dog must run the lane, jump the hurdles, retrieve the ball and return over the hurdles. The first team to finish four dogs without error wins the heat.
Errors include early starts (where the dog being sent crosses the start/finish line before the returning dog), dropped balls, missed hurdles and boxes that aren’t properly triggered and require the offending dogs to rerun after the rest of the team has finished.
