Lauryn Williams Advances To The 4x100-meter Relay Finals

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-Junior Lauryn Williams (Rochester, Pa.) a member of the Team USA 4×100-meter relay team will advance to the finals of the 2003 IAAF World Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Paris, France.

The women’s 4x100m relay team of L. Williams, Angela Williams (Ontario, Calif.), Chryste Gaines (Lithonia, Ga.) and Inger Miller (Van Nuys, Calif.) dominated the first semifinal heat of the relay, winning in 42.04 Friday night.

The team will compete in the finals at 7:45 p.m. Saturday night in Paris.

Williams has won a total of three gold medals while representing the United States in international competition over the last two seasons. Last summer she won the gold medal in the 100-meters at the 2002 World Junior Championships in Kingston, Jamaica. In addition to her gold medals, Williams took home a silver medal as a member of the USA 4×100-meter relay at the World Junior Championships.

Already a five-time All-American, Williams earned All-America honors in the 60-meters, 100-meters and 4×100-meter relay last season. She is currently the UM record holder in five events including the 55-meters, 60-meters, indoor 200-meters, 100-meters and 4×100-meter relay.

Last season Williams was ranked ninth in the United States in the 100-meters by Track and Field News.
