Williams Named To USA World Championship Team

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami junior Lauryn Williams (Rochester, PA) has been named to the Team USA roster for the 2003 IAAF World Outdoor Track and Field Championships, August 23-31, in Paris, France.
Williams, who won Gold Medals in the 100-meters and 4×100-meter relay at the recently completed 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, will compete as a member of the women’s 4×100-meter relay.
Williams has won a total of three gold medals while representing the United States in international competition over the last two seasons. Last summer she won the gold medal in the 100-meters at the 2002 World Junior Championships in Kingston, Jamaica. In addition to her gold medals, Williams took home a silver medal as a member of the USA 4×100-meter relay at the World Junior Championships.
Already a five-time All-American, Williams earned All-America honors in the 60-meters, 100-meters and 4×100-meter relay last season. She is currently the UM record holder in five events including the 55-meters, 60-meters, indoor 200-meters, 100-meters and 4×100-meter relay.
Last season Williams was ranked ninth in the United States in the 100-meters by Track and Field News.
