Sacramento, CA (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami freshman Charlette Greggs (Miami Northwestern) finished eighth in the finals of the 400-meters and anchored the 4×400-meter relay to a fourth-place finish to highlight the final day of competition at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, CA.

Greggs, who earned All-America honors on Friday as a member of the 4×100-meter relay, is the first Hurricane in school-history to earn All-America honors in three events at the NCAA Championships.

“I can’t say enough what an impressive meet it was for Charlette (Greggs),” said head coach Amy Deem. “To come in here as a freshman and earn All-America honors in three events is a great accomplishment.”

Greggs, who ran in lane seven, recorded a time of 52.19 in the 400-meter final becoming the first Hurricane woman to earn All-America honors in the event.

“Running in lane seven you need to get out fast and try to hold on at the end,” said Greggs. “Unfortunately I wasn’t able to do that today. I went out hard at the start and just ran out of gas at the finish.”

In the 4×400-meter relay, the team of junior Kitoya Carter (Miami Northwestern), senior Jamillah Wade (Philadelphia, PA), freshman Dominique Darden (Harrisburg, PA) and Greggs recorded a time of 3:32.86 marking the highest finish in school-history and earning All-America honors for the second consecutive year.

This also marks the first time the University of Miami had the 4×100-meter relay and 4×400-meter relay earn All-America honors at the same NCAA Championship meet.

“I thought Kitoya (Carter) and Charlette (Greggs) ran outstanding legs,” said Deem after the race of the former Miami Northwestern standouts. “For Charlette to come back after a difficult race in the 400-meter final and run a 51.8 anchor leg in the relay shows what a tough competitor she is.”

Miami scored in a school-record four events (100-meters, 400-meters, 4×100-meter relay, 4×400-meter relay) and finished 18th overall with 14 points, the Hurricanes’ highest NCAA Outdoor finish since 1995.
