Women's Tennis Travels To NCAA Regionals

CORAL GABLES, Fla.- The No. 24 University of Miami women’s tennis team (16-6) will travel to Lexington, Ky. to face No. 39 Purdue (13-11) at the NCAA Tennis Regionals Friday, May 9 at 10 a.m. at Kentucky’s Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex.
No. 12-ranked host-school Kentucky (21-7) will face Hampton (19-3) in the other first-round matchup. The winner of the UK/Hampton match will play the winner of the Miami/Purdue contest Saturday at 3 p.m.
Miami, Kentucky and Purdue were all at-large selections while Hampton earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships as the tournament champion of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
The Hurricanes are making their ninth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament and their 17th overall since 1982.
This will be the first meeting between Miami and Purdue.
Sixteen regional competitions will be conducted May 9-11 with the winner of each site advancing to the NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championships at the Ring Tennis Complex in Gainesville, Fla., hosted by the University of Florida.
The team championship will be held May 15-18. The teams will play a single-elimination tournament at 16 first- and second-round sites (four teams at each site) and the finals site (16-team bracket) to determine the national champion.
