Harris Earns All-America Honors For Second Consecutive Season

Fayetteville, AR (hurricanesports.com) – Senior Gina Harris (Philadelphia, PA) finished ninth in the long jump with a mark of 6.15 meters (20-02.25) to earn All-America honors for the second consecutive season at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, AR.
Harris, the 2003 BIG EAST indoor long jump champion, finished 10th at last season’s NCAA Indoor Championships to earn All-America honors for the first time of her career. Harris is the first Hurricane long jumper to earn All-America honors in consecutive seasons.
Also highlighting the first day of competition were sophomore All-American Lauryn Williams (Rochester, PA) who qualified for the finals of the 60-meters, and senior Sharianne Lawson (Palm Beach Lakes) who reached the finals of the 60-meter hurdles.
Williams, the 2003 BIG EAST 60-meter champion, won her qualifying heat in a school-record time of 7.22 seconds. Williams’ time was the second fastest of the preliminaries.
Lawson was just as impressive finishing first in her preliminary heat with a personal best time of 8.12 seconds. Lawson’s time was also the second fastest of the qualifying round.
In the 400-meters, freshman Charlette Greggs (Miami Northwestern) finished 12th with a time of 52.94 while senior All-American Saraque Whittaker (Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas) finished 17th (53.69).
