Hurricanes Dominate Wilson Invitational

Notre Dame, IN (hurricanesports.com) – Sophomore All-American Lauryn Williams (Rochester, PA) won the 60-meters and 200-meters, and freshman sensation Charlette Greggs (Miami Northwestern) won the 400-meters to lead the University of Miami at the Alex Wilson Invitational in Notre Dame, IN.
Williams, the two-time BIG EAST 60-meter champion, won the 60-meters with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 7.29. Her winning time of 23.53 in the 200-meters provisionally qualifies her for the NCAA Indoor Championships, March 14-15, in Fayetteville, AR.
Greggs, competing in her first season of indoor track, led a 1-2-3-4 Hurricane sweep in the 400-meters. Greggs winning time of 52.79 set a UM record and automatically qualifies her for the NCAA Indoor Championships. All-American Saraque Whittaker (Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas) also automatically qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships finishing second with a time of 53.44. Senior All-American Sashanie Simpson (Miami, FL) finished third with an NCAA provisional mark of 54.33 while junior All-American Kitoya Carter (Miami Northwestern) took fourth with an NCAA provisional time of 54.37.
Carter and Whittaker later joined freshman Dominique Darden (Harrisburg, PA) and senior All-American Jamillah Wade (Philadelphia, PA) to win the 4×440-yard relay with a school-record time of 3:34.57. The time is the third fastest in the nation and automatically qualifies them for the NCAA Indoor Championships.,p>Senior Adrienne Moss (Miami Southridge) won the shot put with a school-record throw of 15.89 meters (52-01.75). Junior Jennifer Penrose took second with a throw of 15.43 meters (50-07.50). Both Moss and Penrose provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
