Aug. 15, 2002

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – An intense afternoon practice featuring limited full contact scrimmaging highlighted the day as preseason two-a-days continued Thursday at the Greentree Practice Fields on the UM campus. The Hurricanes practiced in full pads in the afternoon after a short morning session in which the team wore shorts and pads.

“We did some good work today, we worked short yardage and goal line and there was a lot of spirit, a lot of intensity,” head coach Larry Coker said. “Of course we had a much lighter practice this morning so we expected them to be much more spirited this afternoon. And we were. I’m very pleased with a lot of the guys who are working hard to get better. It’s a process. We’re in the middle of a process and as the guys work like this, we’ll have a chance to get better.”

After a languid morning session designed to counter the effects of the previous days scrimmage in the heavy South Florida heat, the Hurricanes resumed the intensity in the afternoon session of two-a-days yesterday.

Miami has two practices slated for Thursday, the morning session at 8:30 a.m. and the afternoon workout scheduled for 3:30 p.m. The next scrimmage will be held during the morning practice Saturday, Aug. 16, although it will be closed to the public as will each practice thereafter, with regular media policies (viewing for only the first 30 minutes

Practices are open to the public through Friday, August 16. All workouts are closed to the public beginning Saturday, August 17, with regular media policies (viewing for only the first 30 minutes and final 15 minutes of practice) going into effect at that time.

The Hurricanes begin the 2002 season Saturday, August 31, versus Florida A&M at the Orange Bowl. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
