Miami Football Practice Report

Aug. 12, 2002

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The Miami Hurricanes completed another day of two-a-day practices Monday at the Greentree Practice Fields, working for two hours in both practices in sunny conditions.

“We did a lot of installation of sets today,” Coker said. “We pushed them pretty hard today and I was pleased that they competed. Any time like this, you get some mental mistakes as you are teaching the newer player some things but I was encouraged by how hard the guys worked.”

Fullback Kyle Cobia and defensive end Larry Anderson missed practices on Monday. Cobia worked out in the morning on a stationary bike before missing the afternoon session altogether. Coker announced after the afternoon practice that Cobia’s injury suffered on Saturday has been diagnosed as a sprain of the tibial fibular joint just below his left knee. The injury does not directly affect Cobia’s knee.

Cobia underwent an MRI Sunday and will miss approximately 10 days of work while the leg is placed in a temporary cast to immobilize the injured area. Cobia will be re-evaluated after the 10 days and his prognosis for the season opener will be determined at that time.

Anderson has sat out the last two days with an illness and is being evaluated, Coker said.

Miami has two practices slated for Tuesday, the morning session at 8:30 a.m. and the afternoon workout scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

Practices are open to the public through Friday, August 16. All workouts are closed to the public beginning Saturday, August 17, with regular media policies (viewing for only the first 30 minutes and final 15 minutes of practice) going into effect at that time.

The Hurricanes begin the 2002 season Saturday, August 31, versus Florida A&M at the Orange Bowl. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
