Coral Gables, FL (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami men’s basketball coach Perry Clark has hired Anthony Anderson as assistant basketball coach. Anderson replaces former UM assistant Dwight Freeman who left to become head basketball coach at Norfolk State University.

Anderson, 31, joins the UM coaching staff after spending the last two seasons as an assistant at the University of Texas in Arlington.

“Anthony is a tremendous addition to our staff,” said Clark. “He is a talented recruiter who really understands the game. He relates well with players and is already familiar with our style of play.”

This marks Anderson’s second stint as an assistant coach under Clark. Prior to his tenure at Texas-Arlington, Anderson served as an assistant to Clark during the 1999-00 season at Tulane University, helping guide the Green Wave to a 20-11 record, the Conference USA National Division crown and a trip National Invitational Tournament.

Before joining Clark at Tulane, Anderson served two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of New Orleans, where the Privateers led the Sun Belt Conference in scoring defense and field goal percentage defense.

Anderson began his coaching career in 1995 as an assistant coach, recruiting coordinator and academic advisor at Paris (Texas) Community College, and also served one season (1996-97) as an assistant at his alma mater, McNeese State, helping lead the Cowboys to their first Southland Conference title since 1977-78.

Anderson was a starting guard at McNeese State from 1992-94 and earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology in 1995.
