Hurricanes Sign Point Guard

Head basketball coach Perry Clark announces the signing of point guard Armondo Surratt (Oakland, CA) to financial aid agreement to attend the University of Miami this fall. Surratt chose Miami over a number of schools including Georgetown, Southern California, Arkansas and Louisville.

“Armondo (Surratt) gives us a pure point guard that can run our team and get our players open shots,” said Clark. “We are very excited about having him join our program.”

Surratt (5-11, 165), a first-team All-State selection, averaged 18 points, nine rebounds, eight assists and five steals per game last season in leading Oakland Technical High School to a 28-4 record and a trip to the California Division I State championship game.

“Armondo is a tremendous player at both ends of the floor,” says Oakland Tech head coach Hodari McGavock. “Defensively he covers the entire floor like a blanket, and offensively he has the ability to penetrate to the basket or pull up and hit the open jumper.”

Surratt is the 67th ranked senior prospect according to ESPN.com.

Surratt is the fourth player to commit to the Hurricanes joining 6-2, 185 pound guard Robert Hite (Cincinnati, OH/Winton Woods HS), 6-3, 185 pound guard Eric Wilkins (Piscataway, NJ/Oak Hill [VA] Academy), and 6-6, 190 pound swingman Ismael N’Diaye (Abidjan, Ivory Coast/Berkshire [FL] School).
