Hurricanes Run Away From Southeast All-Stars

Coral Gables, FL (hurricanesports.com) – Senior James Jones (Miami American) and junior Darius Rice (Jackson, MS) each scored 19 points to lead the University of Miami men’s basketball team to a 102-71 exhibition game victory over the Southeast Atlanta All-Stars Monday night at the Knight Sports Complex in Coral Gables.

Rice, who is a preseason candidate for both the Naismith and Wooden Awards, also registered a team-high eight rebounds and three blocks, while Jones handed out four assists.

“I thought we did some good things tonight,” said head coach Perry Clark. “I liked our unselfishness and we were able to get strong contributions from our bench. James (Jones) and Darius (Rice) were able to play long stretches and I thought they played very well together.”

Miami was able to dominate at both ends of the floor turning 28 All-Star turnovers in 37 points. UM also showed its muscle down low outscoring its opponent 44-14 in the paint. The Hurricanes’ bench outscored the All-Stars’ bench 43-11.

Five players scored in double-figures for the Hurricanes including 13 points off the bench from junior forward Rodrigue Djahue (Ivory Coast), 11 points from freshman guard Robert Hite (Cincinnati, OH), and 10 points and a team-high five assists from senior point guard Mike Simmons (Los Angeles, CA).

Miami concludes its exhibition schedule at 7 p.m. on November 16 against Global Sports at the Knight Sports Complex in Coral Gables. Admission is free.
