Tennis Completes Day One At The Gator Invitational

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-The Miami women’s tennis team won six of nine singles matches and won all four doubles matches to open play at the Gator Fall Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. Friday afternoon.
Mari Toro (Miami, Fla.) and Staci Stevens (Hammond, La.) both advance to the Flight A quarterfinals Saturday.
Toro received a bye in the first round and beat Mei Ly of FIU 6-4, 7-6 (2) in the second round.
Stevens also received a bye in the first round and beat Christina Denny of FSU 6-1, 6-3 in second round action.
Sihem Bennacer (Algiers, Algeria) won both singles matches of the day advancing to the Flight B quarterfinals.
Bennacer downed Gina Craig of USF 6-0, 6-2 in first round action before knocking off Amberly Tantee of FSU 6-4, 6-3 in the second round.
Igna deVilliers (Capetown, South Africa) and Ewelina Skaza (Warsow, Poland) both won in first round action before falling in the second round.
Match play resumes at 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning at Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex in Gainesville, Fla.
