Soccer Falls To Charlotte, 5-2

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-The Miami soccer team falls to Charlotte, 5-2, in the Miami Invitational Friday night at Cobb Stadium.
The Hurricanes drop their third straight, falling to 3-3-0 on the season. The 49ers remain undefeated improving to 4-0-0 overall.
Charlotte opened the match on fire, scoring in the fifth minute and again in the 11th minute. Jennie Leeder scored the first goal for the 49ers, while Jill Hayes connected on a pass from Mikel Casey to put Charlotte on top 2-0.
The Hurricanes quickly answered back as Jenna Johnson (Countryside, Ill.) scored a goal in the 15th minute of the match. Allison McWhinney (Danvers, Mass.) and Britney Butcher (Bothell, Wash.) assisted Johnson’s goal.
The 49ers took a, 2-1, lead into the locker room at halftime.
Miami tied the match two-all in the 55th minute as Lindsey Yach (Carrollton, Texas) scored on a perfect feed from Lisa Gomez (Boca Raton, Fla.).
That was the closest the Hurricanes would come, the 49ers went on to score three more goals. Courtney Crandell scored two unassisted goals and Lindsay Duncan scored on a pass from Shannon Roberto.
Charlotte goalie Jenn Howell made eight saves in 90 minutes of action.
Miami tallied 17 shots on the night, compared to 16 for the 49ers.
The tournament resumes with Florida State facing Charlotte Sunday at Noon followed by Miami versus Virginia Tech at 2:30.
