Coral Gables, FL (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami head women’s track and field coach Amy Deem announces the hiring of Renetta Seiler (Algona, Iowa) as assistant coach. Seiler will coach the throwing events at Miami.

“We are very pleased to have Renetta (Seiler) join our coaching staff,” says Deem. “She brings a lot of experience in the throws and will help continue the growth of our program.”

Seiler joins the UM staff after spending the last two seasons at Kansas State, helping guide the Wildcats to consecutive Big 12 Outdoor Championships. After spending her first season as the program’s administrative assistant, Seiler was promoted to assistant coach last season, helping with jumps, combined events, sprints and hurdles. In her first season as an assistant she helped guide senior Austra Skujyte to the 2002 NCAA title in the heptathlon.

“I am very excited for the opportunity to coach at the University of Miami,” said Seiler. “Coach (Amy) Deem has done a tremendous job building the program and I look forward to helping the Hurricanes achieve even greater levels of success.”

As a student-athlete at Kansas State from 1996-99, Seiler was a six-time All-American and seven-time conference champion in the weight throw, hammer and discus. As a senior at the 1999 Big 12 Championships Seiler took home both the discus (171-8) and hammer throw (204-7) titles.

She earned All-America honors in the hammer three times finishing fifth in 1997 and 1998, and third in 1999. Seiler also was a three-time All-American in the weight throw finishing fifth in 1997, second in 1998 and fourth in 1999.

Seiler, who earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Kansas State in 2000, is currently the school-record holder in both the hammer (209-4) and weight throw (69-02.50). She is a Level II Coach in the throwing events as certified by USA Track and Field.
