Miami's Lauryn Williams Advances To 100 Semis At World Junior Championships

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami sprinter Lauryn Williams (Rochester, PA) was one of two United States sprinters to advance to the semi-finals of the 100-meter dash by winning her qualifying heat Tuesday afternoon at the 2002 IAAF World Junior Track and Field Championships in Kingston, Jamaica.
Williams, who won her heat in a time of 11.69 seconds, advances to the semi-finals to be run Wednesday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. The finals of the 100 are slated to take place Wednesday evening at 7:20 p.m.
The 2002 BIG EAST Champion in the 100, Williams will compete for the U.S. in the 100 meters and 4×100-meter relay at the meet. Williams qualified for the United States Junior National team with a victory in the 100 meters at the USATF Junior National Championships held earlier this summer in Palo Alto, Calif.
