Two UM Relays Qualify For Finals

Austin, TX (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami women’s 4×100-meter relay and 4×400-meter relay both qualified for Saturday’s finals at the 75th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, TX.
Miami 4×100-meter relay consisting of senior Wyllesheia Myrick (Miami Northwestern), freshman Wiande Moore (Spring, TX), junior Sharianne Lawson (Palm Beach Lakes) and freshman Lauryn Williams (Rochester, PA) registered an NCAA provisional mark of 45.58 in qualifying for the final.
The Hurricane relay, ranked 13th in the nation, will face the nation’s best in the final including No. 1 ranked and defending NCAA Champion LSU, No. 3 ranked Texas and No. 4 ranked Indiana.
Miami’s third ranked 4×400-meter relay consisting of junior Saraque Whittaker (Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas), sophomore Kitoya Carter (Miami Northwestern), senior Jenise Winston (League City, TX) and junior Jamillah Wade (Philadelphia, PA) won its preliminary heat with a time of 3:38.32.
The Hurricanes’ time was the fifth fastest in the qualifying round and provisionally qualifies them for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, May 29-June 1, in Baton Rouge, LA.
In other action, UM All-American Kareen Clarke (Lithonic, GA) finished second in the long jump with a leap of 6.07 meters (19-11.00). Clarke will compete in her specialty, the triple jump, on Saturday beginning at 1:30 p.m.
