CORAL GABLES, FL – University of Miami seniorAll-American Kareen Clarke (Lithonic, GA) won the triple jump and juniorSaraque Whittaker (Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas) won the 400-meters tohighlight action at the Hurricane Invitational held at Cobb Stadium in CoralGables, FL.
Clarke, a four-time All-American, destroyed the field with a leap of13.77 meters (45-02.25). Clarke’s nearest competitor was South Carolina’sRashida Abdul-Malik who took second with a jump of 12.18 meters (39-11.50).Clarke automatically qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and FieldChampionships, May 29-June 1, in Baton Rouge, LA.
Whittaker, an NCAA qualifier in the 400-meters last season, won the400-meters with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 53.56. Whittaker alsoran the opening leg of the 4×400-meter relay, which finished second with anNCAA provisional qualifying time of 3:36.94.
Joining Whitaker on the relay was sophomore Kitoya Carter (MiamiNorthwestern), senior Jenise Winston (League City, TX) and senior WyllesheiaMyrick (Miami Northwestern).
Miami’s 4×100-relay of Myrick, freshman Wiande Moore (Spring, TX),junior Gina Harris (Philadelphia, PA) and freshman Lauryn Williams(Rochester, PA) also provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championshipsfinishing second in a time of 45.01.
The Hurricanes return to action on March 23 at the FIU Invitationalin Miami, FL.
