CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami headfootball coach Larry Coker has announced the Hurricanes’ 2002 signees astwenty-two student-athletes signed letters of intent to play football forthe defending national champion Hurricanes on Wednesday.
“We had an excellent recruiting season coming off our national championshipyear and I’m very pleased that we signed a quality group of young men whomeet the personnel needs we have,” said Coker. “While the athletic abilityof these recruits was outstanding, I also was impressed with the way theseyoung men have approached their academics. I’m looking forward to seeingthem when they enroll this fall.”
The Hurricanes thrived on a rich recruiting crop in South Florida, signing16 players from the state of Florida including 10 from the greater Miamiarea. But Miami maintained its status as a national recruiter as the classwas geographically diverse with signees from six different states. Twoplayers from Texas, and a player each from California, Louisiana, Ohio andOklahoma signed on to the Hurricanes football squad. The group includes twoParade All-Americans and 10 SuperPrep All-Americans.
