I wish all of you the very best life offers and thank you for being such a great role model. I am so very proud of our program. Coach Coker, You are an exceptional gentleman and coach and I can truly see why all the coaches and players give it up for you. I hope you are here for a long, long time. Have a great offseason !!! Go Canes !!

rich carfagno, ventnor ,nj to head coach: REPEAT REPEAT

Tom Bellamy, Jr, Avon Park, Fl to 2001 Nat. Champ. Miami Hurricane Football Team: When you all stood up and requested/demanded that the University of Miami name Larry Coker as the football coach to replace coach Butch Davis last year, I knew that you all were something special. Your attitude after being denied your rightfully earned chance to play for the national championship last year was something that you don’t see in a lot of young men today, unfortunately. Those are the things that make champions in life, loyalty and attutide. They are the qualities that have made you champions on the field and off and will continue to make you champions for life. You won like champions, which make us all proud to be ‘Cane fans. I have been a Hurricane fan since 1958 when my dad took me to my first Miami game at the age of 7. Because of suffering several bouts with cancer, the ’83 and ’87 national champion teams are very special to me, but I’m proudest of all of you. You took both adversity and vendication in full stride like champions. It’s not only what y!ou guys did, it was how you did it. Good luck to all of you that are entering the NFL draft. I will follow your careers like I’ve followed all that have preceeded you. You will be missed. And to you who have chosen to return for your senior year, congradulations! You are setting a fine example for your underclassmates in honoring your commitment. You all are fine role models for young people everywhere.

canefangodsman,
Tom Bellamy Jr.

Wayne Ritchie, Rocky Mount N.C. to The Coaches & Players: I have followed the canes ever since moving to Miami in 1963. Thru the good times and the worst of times. From Geo. Mira Sr. to Ken Dorsey. From loosing seasons, to undefeated seasons and 5 national championship seasons. Way to go I love the fact that a winning attitude has been a continuing fact of life. To coach Coker. Nice going, I was in favor of your taking the helm. It proved to be the best decission since getting Howard S. Thanks alot, your leadership is outstanding. To all the other coaches, thanks for keeping the kids feet on the ground, their vision clear. To all the players, thanks, you proved to everyone, young and old, If you set goals and try your best you will be a success. Be prepaired, and be honest to yourself and only the best will come your way. Enjoy this year and all it’s memories. Let next year wait till the spring work outs. Untill then I say again with real excitement, I’m glad to be a Huricane fan. Even though I now live in NC. deep in the !heart of ACC sports, my heart still beats for my hometown team. thanks

Everyones knows in America that last year the UM was robbed of a National Championship due to BCS. You proved this year you are the best and next year will be the best. I wear my UM Hurricanes shirt very proudly in the area of Dallas, site of many universities. God speed you.

Jackie White, Tampa, FL toThe whole team!: I knew it! I knew it! I knew it! I’ve always believed in you. Congratulations and much success next year!

Rich Basile, West Hartford, CT to Entire Team: I arrived at the Rose Bowl about 11AM on Thursday wearing my Hurricanes shirt and was tortured for 6 hours walking around hearing the Nebraska fans. They were yelling “over-rated” or “someone has to lose”, etc. It was a great feeling at halftime topped off by an older woman in our section yelling at the Nebraska fans “Get back in your RV’s and get out of here”. Needless to say the walk back to the car after the game was very quiet thanks to your great game! I regret I only make a few games a year living in Connecticut, but you guys made Canes fans everywhere proud. Keep up the good work, best wishes to those moving on, and good luck next year to the 2002 Canes!

I am trying to go to the University of Miami myself. I am trying to ge in off of a football scholarship. I am going to play for my high school team next year. I will be a junior. Hopefully I will make the team and be quarterback like I am trying for. I want to play football for the Hurricanes and do what I can to win the national championship the way you and the rest of the team did. Well, I know this is more of an informing message than a salute but, who cares? Well, until next time when you all win.

Brian Pollert
Lakeland High School (Suffolk, Va)

curtis cramer, orlando,fl to the team: I am proud to be a Cane. Undefeated, National Champs! Congratulations. You won with such humility and grace. They made the anialation of the teams you played even better. Do it next year!

Willie Knox, Oceanside, CA to Ken Dorsey: Good Job Ken,You played really well this season. I was very impressed with the way that you dealt with adversity throughout this season. Even when you had a bad game you always find a way to win. That is a sign of a true champion. Ever since the Washington debacle you have been sensational. I enjoyed every minute of the Washington game and the only thing that they could think of was that you guys ran up the score. We owed them that and a lot more. Great season. I look forward to winning Championship number six (6) for 2002. You will win the Heisman Trophy next season. Good job in advance.

Richard Schepacarter, Mount Ephraim, NJ: FIVE MORE PLEASE! Being a longtime Canes fan (since 1982) this was just great – brings back all the memories – I remember when I wore my Canes jacket after #2 Nat. Champ. and people would wonder what team it was – no more – go for 5 more please!!!!!

Don Lang Class of 1973, Sarasota, FL to Matt Walters: When I come over the Big East Tennis Chmps. this year and we tailgate, I still have your Gator Ade Bottle. I need it signed by you. Thanks again for a memorable season. Don Lang – Michael’s DAD.

Glenn Ripps, Los Angeles, California to The UM coaching staff: Great job guys. I was proud to be a ‘Cane on January 3rd for so many reasons it would be hard to list them all here. I’ll start with the attitude. I felt that we had the proper ratio of “the old confident swagger” to the respect and dignity that should be afforded our worthy opponents. Clearly the score didn’t reflect the totality of the drumming we handed the Cornhuskers in Pasadena, and that is due, I believe, to a staff that believes in ethics and conduct. I was proud of the way our team would help, a totally outmatched yet persistent Eric Crouch back to his feet after almost every rocking blow he recieved. He is a true Champion and a warrior and I felt that we showed him the respect he deserved. I was proud of the unbelievable balance our offense showed off. Passing to our great tight end and running backs and recievers and then running the ball up the middle and outside. I never knew what you were going to do next. I feared that you would try to set u!p the pass with the run, which I always think is a mistake that puts too much pressure (third and long) on the quarterback. You guys mixed it up well, though I am a huge advocate of play action on almost every passing play. Most of all I was proud, and I must admit a bit surprised at the ability of our defense to thoroughly contain Nebraska’s vaunted Option. I have always said that there is a reason that no NFL team uses it exclusively, and that is that the quarterback would get wasted on every play- and that is virtually what you did. So many of my friends thought that there was no way we would be able to hold their offense back, and I was worried but I’ve never seen a better job against Nebraska. Again, congratulations and let’s all root for the UM hoops team to bring us an unprecidented third National Championship in a row. First baseball then football and then hopefully hoops.

victor lopez, lake worth fl: good job go canes

Phil Farinacci, Monaca to Ken Dorsey: Way to go! I’ve been a ‘Canes fan my whole life. My uncle, Bruce Fleming, started at linebacker there in the ’80s and my whole family always cheered for Miami. I so glad to see the team on top again. And it’s great to hear the you didn’t sell out and go pro. Congradulations on being national champs. Good Luck next season.

C.Diggs to The entire Hurricane team: The defining moment for the eventual success of this team came from an interview with a couple of Florida State players after the great game in the Orange Bowl during the 2000 fall season. When asked about the Hurricane performance in their win over the Seminoles, the FSU players simply said ” They are Back !!! “

ERICK VALDEZ, MIAMI, FLORIDA to JONATHAN VILMA: CONGRATS ON A GREAT SEASON……AGINST FSU U MADE A BRIILLINT HEADS UP PLAY BY RUNNING THAT FUMBLE IN FOR A TOUCHDOWN……I REMEMBER TELLING YA THAT U ARE GONNA BE THE NEXT DAN MORGAN….AND ITS SOOOO GOOD TO SEE THAT MY OBSERVATION IS COMING TRUE……KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK JONATHAN

Dusty Newport, Ada, Oklahoma to Jeremy Shockey: Jeremy, congratulations on your recent awesome season and a national championship. Being from Ada, I know that you have to work hard and be committed, and you have shown all of Ada and their players that if you continue to work hard and set your goals you can reach anything that you want. Thank you, Jeremy

Walter R. Courtenay III, Raleigh, N.C. to The Team: Gentlemen,Congrats on your victorious season! I am ecststic that you vindicated last year’s joke of a National Championship! I told all of my friends her in North Carolina that this was your year, and that you would prove everyone wrong! My father got his Ph.D at U.M., I went to school there, and just wanted to give you a huge CONGRATULATIONS! And I hope we have a repeat this year! GO ‘CANES!!!!!!God bless you all.

Ahmad Ellison, Cairo, Georgia: Congradulations on your winning the national championship. I wish you the best of luck on this next up coming season. I wish to play football and basketball for your school one day. I am a junior this year. I hope that you would consider giving me a opportunity to play for your team when i graduate in 2003

Cheryl Zingaro, Archer, FL toThe Whole Team: Congratulations on the National Championship!! I know a lot of people did not have confidence in our team, but I did. Good luck to our players that are going to the NFL, I will be cheering for you. Once again, from one of the biggest Canes fans – Congratulations.
