Salmons Named Player Of The Week Once Again

CORAL GABLES, FL (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami senior guard John Salmons has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week for the second consecutive week after leading the 21st-ranked Hurricanes to a pair of victories.
Salmons joins former Hurricane Tim James (1999) as the only Miami players in school-history to win the award in consecutive weeks.
Salmons averaged 20.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocks per game in leading Miami to wins over LSU and St. Francis (PA). He shot 16-22 (.727) from the field, including 4-5 (.800) from three-point range, and 4-6 (.667) from the line.
In the Hurricanes’ 68-61 win over LSU in the Sugar Bowl Basketball Classic, Salmons recorded a game-high 19 points to go with three rebounds, five assists and three steals. The 6-7 native of Philadelphia also dominated on the defensive end holding LSU’s leading scorer Collis Temple III (17.8 ppg) to just five points (0 in the first half) on 2-13 shooting.
He followed the LSU game with a 21 point, five rebound, four assist and three block performance against St.Francis (PA).
Salmons leads the undefeated Hurricanes (13-0) in scoring (13.3 ppg), assists (5.54 apg) and steals (2.38spg) this season. The Hurricanes take on BIG EAST rival Georgetown at 6 p.m. on January 2 at the MCI Center in Washington, DC.
The honor is the third of Salmons’ career which ranks second to only Boston College guard Troy Bell (5) among active BIG EAST players.
