Hurricane Quotes

Head Coach Larry Coker:

On first real practice:
“Yesterday (12/26) was more of a welcome back fun day. We like to have that. There wasn’t a lot of laughter out there today. Guys practiced fast, they ran. It was a very physical practice. We had inside run, we had nine on nine offense vs. defense – a lot of good physical work and guys were making things happen.”

On Bryant McKinnie:
“He practiced very well and looked very good. You wouldn’t know he’d ever been injured. I was very pleased about that. He really wants to play and wants to get back. What I like is he practiced some before we actually left Miami a couple of days and he hasn’t really missed anything since he’s been here.”

On Chris Campbell:
“Chris had knee surgery right after our Virginia Tech game. He was doing fine when we left with full flexibility and full range. But when he actually got here we had swelling in his knee. The doctor checked it out and actually had to, I’ll say ‘clean it up’ – I don’t know the exact procedure. He’s actually in the hospital now and will be released supposedly tomorrow and should be fine. There is no structural damage, it was just an infection that they had to deal with. He should be at practice if not tomorrow, day after tomorrow, which will be fine.”

On being the undefeated team:
“The psychology of an undefeated team is you better not think about being undefeated. You better think about winning at practice and winning each play because you get thinking about being undefeated ad we know that doesn’t last long and that’s exactly what our approach is. We’re not undefeated. We’re 0 and 0 and they’re 0 and 0. It’s a one-game season.

Quarterback Ken Dorsey:

On the Rose Bowl:
“It’s one of the most prestigious bowl games in existence. It’s an honor for anyone to be here, and an even greater honor now that it’s the National Championship.”

“I’ve never been to a Rose Bowl game, but I’ve watched them when I was growing up.”

“The Rose Bowl people have been very hospitable. They put on a great show for us and everything w can want, they provide us with. It’s a great opportunity. We hope we can give them a little something different this year and put on a good show for them.”

On Practice:
“Practice was very good. We got a lot of work done. These practices are all mental though. We’re working on the mental aspects of the game and working on ironing everything out.

Running Back Willias McGahee:

On Starting:
“I’m just going to do whatever they ask me to do. As long as I get the job done to get a ring, I am going to do it.”

“It’s a real good opportunity. I’ve been out for the last few games, so this is a good opportunity to show the coaches and everyone else what I can do.”

On Advice from Najeh:
“I really haven’t spoken with Najeh yet, but when I do I’ll ask him what to expect, how to take blocks just all the little things – the little things coaches can’t tell you what happens on the field.”
