Hurricanes Roll Howard, 87-71

MIAMI (AP) – John Salmons scored 19 points and Elton Tyler added 17 as theMiami Hurricanes rallied in the second half to beat Howard 87-71 Thursday.
Miami (6-0) is off to its best start since opening 9-0 in 1997. The victorywas the 700th for the program.
Down 48-45 at halftime, Miami took the lead for good, 56-54, on DariusRice’s 3-point shot. The Hurricanes then went on a 17-7 run to build a 73-61advantage. In the closing minutes, Miami led by as much as 19 points.
Ron Williamson led Howard (2-3) with 23 points, all in the first half, as hehit seven of his first eight 3-point shots.
But Miami switched up its defense in the second half, using the 6-foot-7Salmons to guard the 6-1 Williamson, who was 0-for-4 after the break. Howardshot just 29 percent in the second half.
James Jones finished with 14 points for Miami. Marcus Barnes had 13 and Ricefinished with 11.
Kyle Williams added 17 points for the Bison and Aki Thomas had 16 points and11 rebounds.
The lead changed five times early in the second half, before Miami broke thegame open.
