Shakeup In New AP Poll, but Miami Still No. 1

Losses for Nebraska and Oklahoma turned into big gains for Florida, Texas,Oregon and Tennessee in the AP media poll.
While Miami (10-0) was a near-unanimous choice at No. 1 in The AssociatedPress Top 25 on Sunday, Florida moved up to No. 2, Texas to No. 3, Oregon toNo. 4 and Tennessee to No. 5.
Nebraska (11-1), beaten by Colorado 62-36 on Friday, fell four spots to No.6, while Oklahoma tumbled seven places to No. 11 after its 16-13 loss toOklahoma State on Saturday.
The Hurricanes, who close out the regular season on Saturday at VirginiaTech, collected 71 first-place votes and 1,799 points from the 72 sportswriters and broadcasters on the AP panel. Miami defeated Washington 65-7 onSaturday, dropping the Huskies (8-3) seven places to No. 19.
The Gators (9-1), off over the weekend, received the remaining first-placevote and 1,716 points. Florida plays host to Tennessee (9-1), with the winneradvancing to the Southeastern Conference title game.
Texas (10-1) moved up two places following its 21-7 win over Texas A&M, andadvanced to Saturday’s Big 12 Conference title game against Colorado. TheBuffaloes (9-2) improved five spots to No. 9 after their big win over theHuskers.
Oregon (9-1) did not play, but closes the regular season on Saturday againstOregon State. Tennessee defeated Vanderbilt 38-0 on Saturday.
After Nebraska, Atlantic Coast Conference champion Maryland (10-1) was No.7, followed by Big Ten champ Illinois (10-1), Colorado and No. 10 BYU (11-0).
In the USA Today/ESPN coaches poll, the top five were Miami, Florida, Texas,Tennessee and Oregon.
The Hurricanes and Gators were expected to be first and second in the BowlChampionship Series standings on Monday. Nebraska was first and Miami secondlast week, with Florida fourth behind Oklahoma.
The final BCS standings on Dec. 9 determine which teams will play for anational title in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 3. The standings are based on a formulathat incorporates the AP media and coaches’ polls, eight computers, strength ofschedule, won-lost record and bonus points for big wins.
Oklahoma was No. 11 in the AP poll, followed by No. 12 Stanford, No. 13Washington State, No. 14 Virginia Tech, No. 15 South Carolina, No. 16 Georgia,No. 17 Michigan, No. 18 Syracuse, No. 19 Washington and No. 20 Marshall
Fresno State was No. 21, followed by No. 22 LSU, No. 23 Ohio State. No. 24Louisville and No. 25 Auburn.
Michigan, 26-20 losers to Ohio State, fell six places.
LSU, Ohio State and Auburn returned to the Top 25, while Georgia Tech,Arkansas and Boston College dropped out.
